As I look around today there is much to be anxious about.
Our house has not sold, not even had anyone looking. The hunters from our house returned early. There are NO elk. Rumors of wolves destroying the herds cause concern that there will be no elk in our freezer this autumn. The state of our nation, the state of our economy, the upcoming elections...... it all is good cause for worry but Christ commands us not to worry.
Our trust should not be in our bank account. Our trust should not be in well stocked cupboards. Our trust should not be in our govt. and our trust cannot be in a President (good or bad).
What am saying then??? Do we throw up our hands in despair??? No - most definitely not. We pray, we do what Christ instructs us to do, day by day walking through the life he has given us and we TRUST. I heard a pastor yesterday afternoon who started reciting part of an old hymn. It was SO familiar to me; I sung it countless times as a child. However yesterday as I started to sing it out in my kitchen I started to weep.
I have been praying a lot lately from the scripture in Mark 9:24 -- it says "Lord, I believe, help my unbelief" I pray it yet again today.
Lord, forgive me for my worry, my anxious spirit. Help me remember - my trust can ONLY be in you --- :
’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,And to take Him at His Word;Just to rest upon His promise,And to know, “Thus says the Lord!”
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’erJesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!O for grace to trust Him more!
I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee,Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend; And I know that Thou art with me,Wilt be with me to the end.
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’erJesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!O for grace to trust Him more!
