Little Pleasures

Life goes by so fast -- it is SO easy to forget the little moments. Someone once said it really is not the big moments that create a life - it is the small day-to-day moments, we so often overlook, that matter. There is even a song that says something along the lines of what matters is what happens in the dash (the "-" mark between your date of birth and your date of death)

I forget to notice those little things so often. Too often I look at my daunting schedule, my calendar, my list of responsibilities, my errands, the state of the checkbook, the state of the nation....... and I miss what is most important.

Today, I enjoyed little pleasures. I woke up to the quiet and stillness of the world still at rest. I searched the Word for answers to a question that I am struggling with. Rebekah came in and snuggled her good mornings. There were snuzzly neck kisses and giggles like a bubbling brook as her little hands squished my face and she said in her soprano lilt - Momma, I love you MUCH! Judah came in to wish me good morning, full of snickers at his sister and his morning shivers as he escaped the warm cocoon of his blankets and bed. WARM water in our new house and water that did not involve buckets in any form

(Tim and Elijah finished up our water system last night - HURRAY!)

The cool, crisp morning as I walked in the yard and the smell of warm oatmeal with brown sugar at breakfast.

Scripture says, Be still and KNOW that I am God. I need to do that more -- I need to just BE more and DO less. Good reminder for me on a beautiful autumn day. I hope today gives you the opportunity to marvel at something -- an autumn leaf, a full-headed sunflower, a child face as they make a new discovery.........I hope something steals your breath away today as we just learn to be.
