Well.... the boys returned from their adventure. They were TIRED and HUNGRY and DIRTY but they were also elated. They had lots of fun together. Tim said it was quite an adventure. They hiked 4-1/2 miles on snow shoes and the snow was at the lowest point of the hike about 8" and at the highest point about 10 FEET. Tim said that at some points the wind was miserably unforgiving but the area where they stayed was comfortable. They cooked their dry foods and enjoyed being pioneers :) The boys did dig a snow cave but had to abandon it in the night. There was a fallacy with where they put the vent holes and it wasn't pulling out the carbon dioxide like it should have. Tim and I had been praying for safety. Josiah started vomitting and the two other boys started having some serious muscle cramps when they came out of the cave into the cabin. So, they spent the night in the cabin instead. We were grateful that no harm was done and the boys are excited about another attempt next year. Tim said he really enjoyed snowshoeing and would like to do some more of that. I will try to post some pix in the family slide show.
