Clothesline musings

In an attempt to scrimp more life out of our pennies we started hanging our laundry on a clothesline a couple of months ago. It is SO super windy here things dry rapidly. What a great solution for a family that has as much laundry as ours :)

While I will confess that my children were at first mortified by their mother's airing of our family laundry, they have gotten used to the idea and Gabrielle actually is my biggest supporter. She is quick to grab the laundry and walk out to hang it and even Bekah has a short line that she helps hang up small things like washcloths and socks on :)

I love being outside hanging laundry -- I love to have that quiet time, time to pray and time to think, time to hear the birds in the trees, time to watch the kids playing outside. I notice so much more about the beauty of the world God created when I am walking in and out to check the laundry. It has also been a great opportunity to teach my kids about honoring others in yet another avenue -- simple things like hanging the.....hum..........unmentionables on the center line as to not expose anyone's delicates to the entire neighborhood --- hanging and removing Daddy's shirts so the wind presses out all the wrinkles (yet another benefit of clotheslines - less ironing! :] ), and even mating the socks on the line so they can quickly be folded as they are taken in the house --- it is a great opportunity to learn again how to honor each other!

You know, for all of our great technology and advancements (the opportunity to blog being one of my favorites) it seems like we have lost a lot of things along the way as well. Our mothers and grandmothers had so much correct and I think they were more attune to much of it because of the simplicity they enjoyed. It has been a great experience to return in this aspect to some of that -- I will whisper my confession to you though.................

I'm not giving up my dishwasher without a fight :)

I hope you have a few moments to enjoy something simple today!
