The Kids

Our little farm expanded yesterday with the addition of FIVE kids!!! Josiah's little goat Katie had two and Pepper (Elijah's Nubian) had three. Must have had something to do with the change in pressure to have both does decide to freshen yesterday -- there was a large storm blowing through. I love baby goats! They have such a feeling of spring and they are an immense amount of fun to watch. Pepper's delivery was complicated with her first breech. The kid had to be pulled and I gained more experience than I desired in vet medicine. Our neighbor and 4-H mentor came over and helped me extract the baby. I was having a great amount of difficulty finding the feet. I am happy to report that breech baby and the two behind him all lived and Momma Goat is recovering very well. Birth is an amazing process to get to be involved in. Zachy is anxious for his little Melody to have her kid(s) next month.

As far as MY kids go, all are doing well. Elijah and Gabrielle are taking SAT testing this week. They are not required here but I like having the tests on record once the kids are middle-school age and it gives them practice for the larger college entrance type exams they will need to take.

Josiah and I are reading through our beekeeping material and trying to get ready for our honeybees. They arrive on Monday. My cousin is building hives for us and we are furiously gathering equipment and assembling frames. Neat little creatures -- should be a great learning experience.

Littler ones are growing far too fast...........

Tim and I keep plugging away at the house. I almost have the great room ready to texture. We were going to try and go with a flat wall, just knapped with a roller but my skills in taping/mudding are not up to that task yet. So, we will add a little texture to polish it up. Drywall is FAR more difficult than I imagined. I did have fun this week picking out colors and dreaming a little.

Well......... gotta scoot. Hope you have a marvelous SPRING day!
